Vibrant.

With last year being such a huge transition for me, I’m trying to reflect and learn from 2018. Last year was hard. Without repeating myself too much, my year was emotional, confusing, joyful, exhausting and bittersweet.

Some highlights include:

Going to Chicago

And getting to witness and experience real snow for the first time in my life. While I think its beautiful and breathtaking, I learned that I never ever, ever, ever (like ever ever) want to live in a place that gets regular snowfall! I wore like 17 layers and was still cold. Also – all you northern people, how can you STAND taking off and putt on all your layers ALL THE FREAKING TIME? It was exhausting and so unnecessary. But overall, Chicago was a blast. We enjoyed so much of the city and the history. We would happily go back at the drop of a hat.

Zach finally went to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo

It is shameful for me as a Houstonian that it took me four years of being with my husband before I took him to the rodeo. But when we finally did, we had a blast. I didn’t take many pictures because – let’s face it – being pregnant causes a lot of forgetfulness. But the cow was cute!

We got to meet Jackson for the first time

WHADDA CUTIE. Such an incredible, life-changing experience to become parents. Jackson has been such a delight this past year and we have enjoyed watching him grow. Everyday he looks different and learns new things. He is tenacious and persistent. He loves to laugh and talk. He is inquisitive and intelligent. I cannot wait to foster his little brain and provide him with the tools to grow into his little person. We have so enjoyed getting to know our little person and can’t wait to learn more!

We visited a LOT of family

We are very blessed to have so many people that love us so deeply. I hope we never forget the love that surrounds our lives – both near and far.

We went to the beach in Florida

My favorite place is the beach. I loved getting to share that place with my son and introducing him to his extended family!

I celebrated my 28th birthday.

Such a memorable birthday spending it at my favorite steakhouse, Taste of Texas and getting commemorative tattoos with my boo.

We moved to Tennessee.

With the help of my in-laws, we drove into the night to get to Tennessee in one day. Packing up our home into a moving truck and saying goodbye to our first home was incredibly emotional. You don’t realize how emotionally attached and dependent you are to locations and objects until you leave them (literally) in the rear view mirror.

Zach and I both started new jobs.

Zach started working for Lyft at their headquarters here in Nashville and I began working at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Both were definite upgrades from our last jobs!

We went to our first pumpkin patch as a family.

We went on our first hike in Tennesse.

This was my first fall to see the leaves changing! It was very exciting.

Jackson went to the zoo for the first time.

We did the Turkey Trot!

Went to Texas for Thanksgiving.

Jackson went for his first plane ride and I took home a bunch of Pappasito’s tortillas. Yum.

Jackson had his first Christmas.

Now, to 2019…

Even though I have had some challenges with adjusting to my new normal, looking back on 2018 just reminds me of how blessed I am. But personally, 2018 wore me out!

In 2019, I want to focus on the word nurture. After last year being a whirlwind of change, I want to slow the pace down and focus on being intentional in 5 areas of my life.

Nurture my mind.

First and foremost, I have to focus on my mind and my emotions. My goals this year are to continue going to therapy, to dive deeper in the Bible, to read more fun books and to learn a new skill.

Nurture my marriage.

This year will be our second year of marriage. I want my relationship to be more intentional. My goals are to pray for Zach more, to have a monthly date night, and to read at least one marriage book.

Nurture my son.

Jackson will turn one this year and I want to be the best mother I can be (who doesn’t?). My goal this year is to stimulate learning and facilitate growth. I also want to make more mom friends and read one child-rearing book.

Nurture my body.

As per usual, I want to be healthier and lose weight. This year I want to run a 10K and potentially run a half-marathon. I’ already signed up for the 10K in April!

Nurture my dreams.

Finally, I want to take steps to begin working on my dreams. It’s never too late to work on your dreams and I refuse to let myself be overlooked any longer.


I want 2019 to be an exhale. Too much of 2018 was me catching my breath. I’m ready for the dust to settle and the roots to begin to grow.
